[0003] Some embodiments of this disclosure include apparatuses and methods for measuring and/or reporting UE-to-UE crosslink interference (CLI).

[0004] In some embodiments, a method for measuring CLI may include commanding, for example by a communication network, a first transmission reception point (TRP) to transmit a first Radio Resource Control (RRC) message that commands a first user equipment (UE) to transmit a crosslink interference reference signal (CLI-RS) according to a time behavior specified by the first RRC message. The method may include commanding, for example by the communication network, a second TRP to transmit a second RRC message that commands a second UE to measure UE-to-UE crosslink interference (CLI) using the CLI-RS transmitted by the first UE according to the time behavior. In response to the second UE measuring the UE-to-UE CLI, the method may include receiving from the second UE, a reporting of the measured CLI indicating a level of interference caused by the first UE.

[0041] In the context of wireless communications, communication interference may result in degradation of signals and signal quality. Signal interference is especially relevant to 5G communications, including 5G NR (New Radio) communications. One such form of interference is known as crosslink interference (CLI). CLI may occur between two transmission reception points (TRPs), such as base stations or nodes, and/or may occur between two user equipment (UE) devices. A network may control the TRPs and/or provide communications for the UEs.

[0042] FIG. 9 illustrates a block diagram of a crosslink interference (CLI) environment 900 according to embodiments. CLI environment 900 may include UEs 910 and/or TRPs 920. A network and/or backend network system (e.g., controlling node) may control the TRPs 920 and/or provide communications for the UEs 910. One version of CLI may be between TRPs 920 as indicated by TRP-to-TRP interference 930. Another version of CLI may be between UEs 910 as indicated by UE-to-UE interference 960.

For example, TRP 920B may be receiving a UL transmission 950 from UE 910B. At this time, TRP 920A may be performing a DL transmission 940 to UE 910A. In this case, TRP 920B may experience CLI due to the TRP-to-TRP interference caused by the DL transmission 920 from TRP 920A.

While 5G NR supports duplexing flexibility in both paired and unpaired spectrum, these two types of CLI (i.e., UE-to-UE interference 960 and TRP-to-TRP interference 930) may arise under dynamic UL/DL operation, as demonstrated in FIG. 9.

[0046] To enable CLI mitigation schemes, UE-to-UE CLI measurement and reporting may be provided. To provide this measurement and reporting, UE's may be configured to set when and where to transmit a crosslink interference reference signal (CLI-RS). Similarly, the UE's may be configured to determine when and where to measure UE-to-UE CLI and when and how to report the CLI measurements.

[0047] In some embodiments, to direct UEs to transmit the reference signals (CLI-RS), measure CLI, and report UE-to-UE CLI, Radio Resource Control (RRC) signals may be used to operate the UEs. RRC signals may be transmitted by a wireless network using a base station, node, or TRP. This disclosure further describes RRC signaling for CLI-RS transmission resource configuration and CLI measurement resource configuration. Further, this disclosure describes medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) embodiments for transmitting and receiving beam(s) indication for CLI measurement. This disclosure further describes RRC signaling for CLI measurement and reporting.

[0049] To provide context for reference signals, in the NR Rel-15 standard, a reference signal is either transmitted by a UE (e.g., sounding reference signal or SRS) or is received by a UE (e.g. channel-state information reference signal or CSI-RS). Therefore, the meaning of a RRC RS-Resource (or RS-ResourceSet) configuration is clear and self-explanatory. For example, NZP-CSI-RS-Resource is used to configure a UE to measure the NZP CSI-RS transmitted by the TRP, and SRS-Resource is used to define resources where UE should transmit SRS.

[0050] However, CLI-RS may be a different kind of reference signal because CLI-RS is transmitted by a UE and received by another UE. Therefore, when a network node (such as a TRP) configures a UE to use a CLI-RS, the network node may distinguish the following two types of CLI-RS resource configuration: (1) CLI-RS transmission resource, and (2) CLI measurement resource. The first resource indicates when and where a UE should transmit the CLI-RS, and the second resource configures a UE on when and where to detect the CLI-RS from other UEs to measure CLI.

[0051] To transmit a command to a UE for the UE to perform the CLI-RS transmission, a TRP may transmit a Radio Resource Control Information Element (RRC IE) as a command for a CLI-RS transmission resource set. In some embodiments, the TRP may transmit the command by reusing the previously described Sounding Reference Signal (SRS) resource set. These embodiments will be further described below as option 1 and option 2 but may be interchangeable and/or used in combination to command a UE to perform the CLI-RS transmission.

[0094] The UE may be commanded to measure the CLI and/or report the measurement. In some embodiments, a UE is configured to measure CLI on CLI measurement resource sets. Each CLI measurement resource set may coincide with a CLI-RS transmission resource set configured by the neighboring TRP.

[0095] UE can be configured with several types of measurement, such as Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) measurement, Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) measurement, Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ) measurement, and/or other measurements for CLI.

[0096] In some embodiments, if each CLI-RS transmission resource set is associated with a neighboring UE, then each UE may perform CLI measurement and reporting. This measurement and/or reporting may be performed on a per-UE basis, as shown in FIG. 12.

CLI measurement resource set 1 configured by the TRP 1220A may coincide with the CLI-RS transmission resource set 1 for CLI-RS 1, which is configured by the TRP 1220B. As seen in FIG. 12, TRP 1120B may command UE 1210B and/or UE 1210C to transmit a corresponding CLI-RS. For example, UE 1210B may transmit CLI-RS 1 while UE 1210C may transmit CLI-RS 2. This command may be performed via RRC communication. In some embodiments, TRP 1220A may command UE 1210A to perform the CLI measurement using CLI-RS 1 and/or CLI-RS 2. In some embodiments, a network may use TRP 1220A to command UE 1210A to perform the measurement and/or report the CLI measurement back to TRP 1220A.
