Method and apparatus for transform precoding configuration in random access procedure

[0002] The present disclosure relates generally to the technology of wireless communication, and in particular, to methods and apparatuses for transform precoding configuration in random access procedure.

[0003] This section introduces aspects that may facilitate better understanding of the present disclosure. Accordingly, the statements of this section are to be read in this light and are not to be understood as admissions about what is in the prior art or what is not in the prior art.

[0004] FIG. 1 is a diagram illustrating a four-step random access procedure, which is also called Type-1 random access procedure. In a wireless communication system, such as a new radio (NR) system, a four-step/4-step approach as shown in FIG. 1 may be used for random access procedure. In this approach, the terminal device, such as a user equipment (UE) detects a synchronization signal (SS), including primary synchronization signal (PSS), secondary synchronization signal (SSS) in physical broadcast channel (PBCH) and decodes the system information, including remaining minimum system information (RMSI), other system information (OSI), broadcasted in radio resource control (RRC) messages, followed by transmitting a physical random access channel (PRACH) preamble (message 1) in the uplink. A base station, such as a next generation node B (gNB) replies with a random access response (RAR, message 2). The UE then transmits a UE identification (message 3) on physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH).

[0005] The UE transmits PUSCH (message 3) after receiving a timing advance command in the RAR, allowing PUSCH to be received with a timing accuracy within the cyclic prefix (CP). Without this timing advance, a very large CP would be needed in order to be able to demodulate and detect PUSCH, unless the system is applied in a cell with very small distance between UE and gNB. Since NR will also support larger cells with a need for providing a timing advance to the UE, the four-step approach is needed for random access procedure.

[0006] In the four-step random access channel (RACH) procedure, UE shall, for the PUSCH transmission, consider the transform precoding either enabled or disabled, see section 6.1.3 of 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) technical specification (TS) 38.214 V16.0.0, the disclosure of which is incorporated by reference herein in its entirety.

[0008] Certain aspects of the present disclosure and their embodiments may provide solutions to these or other challenges. There are, proposed herein, various embodiments which address one or more of the issues disclosed herein.

[0009] A first aspect of the present disclosure provides a method implemented at a terminal device. The method comprises obtaining at least one transform precoding parameter to be used for a request message for a contention free random access, CFRA. The method further comprises transmitting, to a network node, the request message for the CFRA. The request message comprises: a random access channel, RACH, preamble and a physical uplink shared channel, PUSCH. A transform precoding on the PUSCH of the request message is controlled based on the at least one transform precoding parameter.

The request message comprises a random access channel, RACH, preamble and a physical uplink shared channel, PUSCH. At the first step, the UE transmits, to the base station, the request message (message A, MsgA) for the random access. As the second step, the UE receives, from the base station, a response (message B, MsgB) indicating whether the random access is successful. The request message (MsgA) may comprise a RACH preamble and a PUSCH.

[0091] In four-step random access and two-step random access, the random access can be performed in two different ways: contention-based random access (CBRA) and contention-free random access (CFRA). The difference is which preamble is used. In the contention-based case, the UE randomly selects a preamble from a range of preambles. Here there might be collisions if two UEs select the same preamble. In the contention-free case, the UE is given a specific preamble by the network and since it is given by the network, this will ensure that two UEs will not select the same preamble, thus it is collision-free. The CBRA may be used when the UE is in an idle/inactive state and wants to go to the connected state, while the CFRA may be used for performing handover and/or in beam failure procedures.

[0093] The MsgA of the two-step RA type includes a preamble on PRACH and a payload on PUSCH. After MsgA transmission, the UE monitors for a response from the network within a configured window. For CFRA, upon receiving the network response, the UE ends the random access procedure as shown in FIG. 2b. For CBRA, if contention resolution is successful upon receiving the network response, the UE ends the random access procedure as shown in FIG. 2c; while if fallback indication is received in MsgB, the UE performs Msg3 transmission and monitors contention resolution.
